Thumbs up Zurich - Bluetooth OBD2 Code Reader - from Harbor Freight

Seems like it's always a risk to spend money on electronic devices, and especially OBD-II diagnostic tools... Well, I was pleasantly surprised recently by a purchase I made at our Local Harbor Freight... https://www.harborfreight.com/zr-bt1...der-59091.html

I have had a couple OBD-II devices through the years. Some worked, sort of, and some wouldn't connect to Lil Red or some wouldn't read engine/transmission data, just codes. This code reader worked perfectly on 3 vehicles... 1- My 2001 GMC Duramax/Allison that's had an intermittent Allison code for a long time. 2- Lil Red Swap truck that my other reader couldn't communicate with - but I can now, and... 3- I was able to reset the trouble codes for our 2016 Chevy Malibu that's had a SES lamp for some time now... (2nd battery code, which disabled remote start).

Above is an iPhone screen shot showing the list of codes displayed for my 2001 GMC. Resetting the codes caused the SES to go out, and not come back ... yet... I suspect it might. It's "intermittent", after all.

In any case, I found the reader to be easy to set up using a downloadable app on my iPhone. Once past the easy installation, it's easy to use, and best of all, it works... At $60, I recommend it!

I have something like that for my Jeep and it covers Chrysler products called OBDJscan
app on my Ipad with a Vgate blue tooth dongle. Can see deep codes ABS and others, force sequences, change lighting, and make tire pressure adjustment. Wish it worked on my truck 2006 GMC Sierra 3500. Did have to get a split cable for my new to me 2021 Wrangler Willy's for it to work other than as just a code reader.

I like Zurich products. I have their ZR15S bidirectional scanner, and it works as advertised. My son has a lesser model, and it works for pre-smog tests and code reading/clearing. I've had an ELM-327 Bluetooth adapter in use for years (similar to your Zurich Bluetooth adapter), and used the Torque Pro app with it. The no-name ELM adapter I have also pairs with the ZR15S scanner (it has Bluetooth, WiFi, USB, and OBD-II cable connection). It has much more function than with the apps (I have the Repair 2 app, too), but it's really slow compared to a cable connection. If HFT offered a Zurich Bluetooth adapter at the time I needed one, I wouldn't have hesitated to buy it.

Thanks guys! I'm just glad I can finally retrieve/clear powertrain codes in my GMC and Malibu, and communicate with Lil Red.

By the way, I think the GMC transmission codes are due to an intermittent electrical connector pin contact problem at the transmission. I've seen a couple of YouTube videos that described the problem my truck had, and it turned out that for them at least it was a connector pin contact issue. I changed the NSBU module a while back because the truck was still running the problem prone original black module. The new module didn't help with the intermittent code setting...
