I am ordering an 04 now, how can I be sure of getting the new engine. Its build code is LLY ?

ummm not sure what the code is for sure...the GM dealership should be able to tell you that, theres 2 codes for the duramax, if i cant help you someone else should have those 2 codes

You said in a posting that the new engine is going to be in all production after Nov.1
How can I be sure that my order will have that engine. You seem to have inside info.

As far as I know, the new engine will be available after the new year. We have NOT been able to order any yet. The new engine doesn't even show-up in autobook yet. I'm sure it will be on constraint the minute it becomes available. If I get any more info, I'll post it.

What is the advantage or disadvantage of the new engine.
Am about ready to order one,and can wait till first of year if worth the wait.
The new Birch color has made it worth the up grade.

Make sure the LLY code is not the municipal use engine. Its a detuned engine 210 HP??? See Link:

LB7 = current 300hp pickup truck Duramax.
LLY = model year '04i (higher-powered) pickup truck Duramax.
LRK = current 210hp medium duty Duramax.
LRM = current 300hp medium duty Duramax.

CHEVY DEALER TELLS ME THAT LLY IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE SRW 3500 NOT THE DRW. ANYONE ELSE HEAR DIFFERENT?

He said something about the clutch in the manual not being strong enough to handle the extra power. Seems to me, they could upgrade the clutch and pressure plate. Oh well, I already ordered my truck and it will have the LB7 engine. Didn't want to wait. :D
