Hello All,

This is my first winter that I will be using my Diesel truck, Is there anything in particular that I need to be concerned about? Also are there any additives, or oils I should be using for Winter. I live just outside Buffalo so it usually does not get below 20 Degrees, just alot of snow, Which I also plan on Plowing with this truck.

Truck listed below...

Thanks

The following link can be found in the Member's Area web page.

This deals with the GM diesels and cold weather.

Do engine block heaters come with the trucks or do you have to buy them later? If they do come with the truck, how do you turn it on?

You can also find info in these forums, try using the search feature.

You might consider using a synthetic 5W-40 oil, makes for easier cranking when cold. Amsoil, advertised on TDP, or Mobil Delvac-1 (also advertised in the forums by a seller in OH, or was) or Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 (Walmart, about $13/gal.). Seemed to me like this helped my 6.5TD crank faster/easier after sitting out all day at work in the cold.

I think all the GM diesels came with block heaters, right? Just that somtimes the plug isn't too obvious, tied up out of the way.

HTH, FWIW, YMMV. (Hope this helps, for what it's worth, your mileage may vary).

My 92 came stock with a block heater. The cord was in the turbo inlets in the front bumber.
Anyone: My truck had been run on Mobile1 syntheric when I bought it, so I continued. Mobile1 comes in 5W-30 & 15W-50. WHich is better for my truck in summer & winter? ('till I change over to Amsoil...)

Good Day!

BigMikeO: Pay attention to your fuel. In our area, there are two major suppliers of diesel. One blends or offers #1 & #2 pumps (blend your own); the other sells what they call "Arctic Blend," which they say is #2 with some magic juice in it that makes it good to -30
