View Full Version : 95 vs. 97 GM Oil Cooler

I know that the oil cooler lines are larger for the 97 and later engines due to the requirements of the larger oil pump, etc. for the oil spray cooled pistons.

Since I need to replace the original oil cooler lines on my 95 and I happen to have a 97 6.5 engine oil cooler.... Does anyone know if the 97 cooler offers any additional cooling capacity to make it worth the switch.

Need to order the lines (which won't be GM) and need to make a decision so as to know which lines to buy. Hoping someone knows.

Not sure that it is worth switching to the 97 cooler if all I gain is a slight volume increase in oil capacity; however, if the cooler is more efficient it would be worth it.

Compare the two coolers side by side, then use the larger of the two (if there is a size difference). If there is no size or plate-count difference, there is also no volume difference, and the choice about which to use isn't important - other than which style lines you select.
