turbo whine.

How loud should the turbo whine be? I have 60 thousand on my early 2001 Dmax and it seems that the trubo whine is getting much loader. Did I over look the noise when new? I replaced the air filter , checked all fluid levels looked for tightness on fittings and find nothing amiss.
Do I need to worry , take it to the dealer or enjoy.

Do you have the factory exhaust system? Free-flowing exhaust systems allow more of the turbo whine to exit the tailpipe.

If you're concerned about the turbo, you can remove the inlet elbow on the compressor side, then move the compressor wheel side to side with your fingers. There should be a small amount of radial play, but not enough to allow the vanes to contact the housing.

Thanks for the answer, I did modify the exhaust last fall. Althought the whine has been present since that time, I just didn't associate it with the exhaust mods.
