2003 air intake tube

Just out of curiosity I dropped by a dealer today on the way home and looked at the 2003 D'max. The tube from the air filter box into turbo had what apeared to be an additional tube coming out of it and heading under the turbo cowling.

What is this the concept behind this?

Resonance chamber/baffle.

Cuts down on the intake "pulses", reducing noise and shockwave effects. Started on the 2002 models. Also standard equipment on the gassers.
