What can you reuse off an old engine when rebuilding a 6.5TD could you reuse fuel system components if fairly new? what is recommended to replace? thanks for your help,
Shaun
Hi Shaun,
first check your block for cracks, in the main bearing boss, at the outside main bearing bolt holes. I'm just finishing a 6.5 rebuild with all 6.2 bolt on stuff. I went through two 6.2 blocks before I found a 6.5 with no cracks. :( :( The biggest surprise though was the price of new piston rings  . 430.00 dealer, I paid 330.00 from Engine Parts Warehouse in Detroit    Be prepared for your heads to be bad also. Iwent through six to find two good ones. Good news, I find that the crank and cam are usually in good condition and just have to be polish. I think I'm lucky that I only have 1,000.00 into the motor, but then I also collect motors and parts just in the hope that some of the stuff is good. Three full motors to make one good one and $1000.00 oh and about 30 hrs. Good luck ;)
You can buy new Mahle pistons, rings and wrist pins at Rebiultdiesel.com for 430.00 or just rings for 125.00
