View Full Version : Storing Fuel
With the price of diesel fuel still going up, I'm tempted to keep my 60 gallon auxiliary tank full at today's prices. What is the practical shelf life of diesel fuel? Is 2 or 3 months practical? Is there a diesel fuel equivilent of Sta-Bil?

I usually keep some diesel fuel on hand in a 6-gallon jug. In one instance, the full jug sat for more than 2 years. The fuel appeared fine, and the Duramax ran well with it (a relative ran his new truck out of fuel  ).
It's important that the container be sealed to prevent absorption of moisture and to prevent evaporation.

Some of my antique trucks have diesel that is older thatn I care to think about. Many years. Still seem to work allright. I have also debated weather I should get rid of the "old" fuel, but if it work!!!
