I just bought a 06 dmax allison crew cab with a short bed. This weekend I pulled my 5th wheel from home to Bradford PA. I was pleasantly surprised with only 480 miles on the truck we averaged 10.8 mpg over 200 miles weighing approx. 18,500. On I-80 I set the cruise at 65 with the tow/haul on and it pulled many of the hills in 6th gear.

It will be interesting to see what your truck can do unloaded at those speeds. With diesel fuel prices over $3.00 in many areas, 22-23mpg empty would be nice!

Just curious. Do you still have any paint on the differential case?

couldnt be much heat build up on the rear
Is that 18,500 total weight or was that your tow weight? I am assuming that is total weight. I just purchased an 06 3500 Dmax/Ally CC LB Dooley. When we drove the truck home it was showing 9.2 MPG. Now the truck has like 360 miles on it and it is showing 15.3 at best. Bounces from 14.9 to 15.3. So it is going up. Whew.... I like the truck so far. Traded my 02 2500HD DMax/Ally CC LB for this one. Was a great truck. Hope this one is as good. Take care.

I had an 03 D/A extended cab with the trailer we weighed 18,440. The 18,500 is probably light. The mpg figures are from the DIC and I havent confirmed them with a fill up.
