Ive owned this truck for only 3 mos, the tranny wasnt doing well and i knew it. Finally reverse went completly out. I had 2 questions to myself,
1. Rebuild it myself, all the updates ect...
2. Buy a rebuilt unit and put it in.
I have rebuilt every transmission for every job that i have ever done. With a heavy work load in the shop i stressed out with this tranny job.
This is what i did and thought i would pass it along.
I found ATK engines and transmissions.
Here is the deal.
For 1,600 they will send me a fully updated and rebuilt 4L80E.
Warrenty it for 75,000 mi or 3 YEARS.
Send it to my door with in 2 days.
Pay me 45.00 per hour flat rate for any repairs or replacment under warrenty.
Here is what happened.
It came the next morning.
Packaged in a plastic tranny crate,(pretty cool)
Painted with all new sensors, wire plug kit, cooler flush and all the paper work, including a prepaid invoice for fed ex to come and get my core.
I installed this transmission.
Loaded it with Amsoil synthetic atf.
Took it out for a test drive and have been very impressed since.
Have 3000 mi on tranny, have hauled about 6 times loaded up around 15k gross.
It works great and thought it would be worth passing along, i certainly could not afford to warrenty even my own work for this deal.

Sounds like a good deal. I had my pickup for a week, 7 days exactly and reverse went out. I took it to a local mechanic that my dad likes and ended up with a $1300 bill for one new band and seals. No warrenty either. It always pays to shop around.

Any idea what the core charge would be on an outright purchase from them?

Appreciate the important information. I may be in need of those same services. Can you give me the web address of ATK?
I Have a 93 6.5TD 2500 SC (not duals) am having vibration before and after shift at around 50-55 mph. I suspect tranny but it could be any-thing for all I know. Any way I can't identify tranny as there are no plates or tags on it any where. It is way over due for service. Do you know if I should replace my tranny oil with the type you have? I don't know what I have in mine.
The same goes for the rear differential-no ID plates or tags. I've had to replace the rear differential input shaft (pinion) seal a while back and no one knew what type differential it was so we went by seal dimensions.
I have all the GM service manuals for the 93 trucks but am still confused as to what the numbers are on those components.
I guess I should first find out if I am in the right place for this reply/question?
Anyway; I would appreciate any replies to any of the above if anyone can and again thanks to the contributer.

I did a google search on ATK, the first thing that came up was a free porn site  , good thing the boss wasn't looking. Of course had to make sure the tranny's weren't hidden at the end of the site, checked out every page but nope didn't find tranny's. Went back to google and found the correct website. $2500 is a lot for a t-400! At least that's what I think they were quoting me. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with mine (see "noise" post in 6.2 forum), used trannies around here are almost what I would pay for a rebuilt which is almost what I would pay for a built 700R4. Decisions, decisions. Well I think I'll go make sure that first page doesn't have any trannies on it. :D :D John

That is a very good price on that unit. To be honest I would be very hesitant on a unit priced that low, but your experience has proved me otherwise. I know what it costs to do one of these correctly and you done very well.

Hope it works out. Can't be any worse off than the GM SRTA that was installed in my '91 sub. Have about 20K on it and it just lost 4th gear, mechanically. Lots of metallic noises  .

The first SRTA woundn't shift at all and then this one was installed. Lucky for GM it is out of warranty by time, not mileage.
