The OEM filter base has a plastic threaded air bleed screw in the base, to loosen and allow air to bleed out of base and filter assy. Does any one have a metal screw replacement available??? What part #? What size dia and thread spec is the air bleed screw?? Where can a metal screw be procured??? I believe in a past post someone had a stainless steel screw but I could not find a # or size for it or any other bleeder screws. Thanks to all on these forums! bob.........

Only one place I know of. lubricationspecialist (http://www.lubricationspecialist.com/), Greg Landuyt has it listed on his site under "GM Diesel Products".

You really can't get the wrong screw. He has only one listed. It it was a SS bleeder screw, it's the one.

I have one, and like it. I don't like the idea of having a plastic screw. Any flaw at all, and it would allow air to be sucked into the system, and you'd be dead in the water. Plastic can be unpredictable.

Just be sure not to overtighten it. The housing is aluminum. A SS screw could seize into it, or strip the threads before giving much warning. Let the O-ring make the seal, not the metal to metal contact of the screw head. I've been using it for over 50K with no problems. I also have a Mega filter, so the screw is only opened during filter changes, anyway.

Greg also has a bleeder valve/hose attachment available. This would eliminate the need for a plug altogether, and allow for much less messy bleeding. Someday, I may go with that idea.
