20 MPG Finally

After a year of 14 to 18 MPG . At 17000 miles on truck ; finally got 20.3 mpg on a trip from Mpls to East of Baraboo Wis. Drove at or alittle faster than posted speeds . This was MT 4 passengers . Just ordered more Zaino and can use credit card now on line..

hmmm, a good polish lower your drag coeffecient enough for a mpg increase? :D Seriously though, isn't it a good feeling to know that you've got enough power to tow a house, yet still run economically enough for it to be a daily driver??

I only drove 2000 miles last fall before blended fuel kicked in but I still got over 20. Now at 14K I constantly get 21.5 and if I get a good tank of fuel 22+. Haven't broke 23 yet but hopefully adding a second filter will do it.

Jelisfc I see you have the ZF manual 6 speed . Seems thats good for 1 to 2 mpg over the Alli . Helps more in the cold weather also. Not waiting for the tranny to reach 100 degrees for the converter to lock up..

Mine is unloaded. My overall average is 18.6 at 35ish mph. Very little heavy towing and a 2200 trip to Montana pulling a small utility trailer. Half the miles so far on blended fuel. It will be interesting to see my 12 month overall average.

Loaded mileage is too tough to gauge. If you're happy then I'm happy. Pulling my enclosed sled trailer I went from 7.5 mpg with a 350 in 3rd gear to 13-14 in overdrive with power to spare.

All I know is I get very consistent mileage on straight #2. I only fill at two places unless out of town. At highway speeds I drive between 70-75 with an occasional 80. My best mileage so far has been driving 75+ so I attribute my +/- 1 mpg to fuel quality more than driving habits.

I'm not too far off then, I just got 19.7 mpg this weekend and only have 3k on the truck. I'm sure that will go up as she gets more mileage on it. That was using the DIC though, I have not taken the time to figure it the old way.

Someone mentioned the ZF6 getting 1-2 mpg better than the Ally. I haven't seen it on mine. Of course I am driving the "land Yacht", but the BEST I have seen in 30,000 mi. is 19.5 mpg. That was interstate driving at 65mph for 300 mi. I had the ATV in the bed, 3 adults and gear. Weighed 8900#. At 72-75mph, I usually get 16-17mpg. Above 75, it falls off. Even though I don't appear to be getting any better than the similar equiped Allison--I am not gripping. For a "as big as they get" pickup, 16-19 mpg is GREAT!

I've got 9k miles on my late 02, installed Amsoil by-pass filter system, and Air-filter set-up, I'm considering installing secondary fuel filter as shown on this page, but concerned about warranty issues, but over'all I'm getting high 19's with normal to 5 over usual posted speeds. I've noticed my truck getting a bit noisier, all in all, ( knock on wood ) it's been a great truck. I was VERY concerned, after I got the truck, I was in the low 12's to 16 mpg. Getting better. Any people have info and warranty proof if we discard the Dex'cool and replace with conventional green prestone??? :rolleyes:
I'm not happy to hear what has been shown in other posts, but there's been worse things to happen I guess. Thanks! :cool:

At 10,600 miles with the stock Crew Cab short bed and Shell Rotella Synthetic in crank case, front Steeltex AT at 55 psi rear at 65 psi, ARE Z cap in place

Mileage two passengers, 70-75 mph on Interstate, about 20-21.5

On two lane roads, 40-60, more speed variations, 18.5 to 21

Last Saturday, night traffic, on 50 mile run (admittedly, with a 800 foot net elevation drop

24.9 mpg (wow)

Seldom do I drive trips under 15 miles.

deerhunter7, On the highway your converter should be locked and any differences between rotating and Alli vs ZF should be inconsequential.

My Dmax doesn't seem to know the A/C is running. I could feel it cycle on and off with all my gassers. I used to turn it off on hills but not with this one. Driving this truck is the next best think to sex but last a lot longer. My wife is truely jelious. Later! Lone Eagle :D :D :D

Just got back from a 2700 mile round trip to the Great Smoky Mountains pulling a 9000 lb trailer. We averaged 10.8 mpg using gps for mileage. I am still amazed every time I pull with it. The thing just ate up the hills going through Tn using cruise at 70 mph. It did downshift 4 times once we got into the Smokies but wow did it pull well. Going to Nashville we were running with 3 Dodges and a Ford and I think the Chevy gained some respect especially with the die hard Dodge boys. We passed an 18 wheeler going up a long grade, he called me on the cb asking "what chew got in that thang, I ain't never been passed by a camper going up a hill before", I ate it up.
I've got 53000 miles on it, never been to the shop except for maintenance.
