Here is a link to a LONG discussion on the overhead console and installing a Denali trip computer in the HD trucks. From the fredjr post on 04/26/02 (near the bottom of page 2), it does not seem this person was able to get the trip computer to work with the Dmax - mpg functions were not working for him:

hi, yes it was me how tryed to fit a 2002 cad esclade trip computer(same as a denali) , i got it into my overhead console, i got everything to work ,but i still can't get mpg's, i think i need to get injector pluse width like a gas engine, i still trying to get an anwser from a friend at cadillac(engineer in detroit)if i find any more info i'l be sure to tell everybody

Yea I've been wanting one of those trip computers myself to play around with,sure would be nice to just flip a button and get instant mpg's :D
