14 to 17 qt's assuming that you are doing it with engine running, cooler line off. Run till clean.

MTTwister; My C/K truck manuals says,
4L80E DRAIN AND REFILL= 5qts.
After complete Overhaul= 11.5qts.
Hope this helps.

I do my own service. When I do my flush I have about 18-20 quarts on hand just in case I go to far. I drain the pan (paid $29.00 for a new pan with drain plug from GM, 2whl drive unit? )drop it, clean it, install new filter etc. Now I pour in 4 quarts, disconnect the return to tranny cooler line and slip a clear hose over the fitting, place other end into a plastic pail, start engine and let it pump out the old blood, while I keep adding new. When I see the fluid change from a dark red to a bright red I stop. Reconnect the cooler line, check fluid level, add as needed, take it for a ride to warm it up, and recheck the fluid. Most times I use about 17 quarts. I'm now using "Amsoil" synthetic. I did change it each year, but now every two years, unless I really worked it hard in the heat of summer. smile.gif

Thanks guys - My Service manuals were indicating about 3 Quarts for a 'service' and 7 quarts for a 'fill'. I visited with Greg L getting ready to order Amsoil, and he indicated 17 Qts to Flush, and I was 'blown' away.
Figured he knew what he was talking about, but needed to verify before I order 5 gals, verus 2.5! thanks again.
