Change the rear end lube and the oil. I did both of mine at 2500 and wish that I had done them sooner.

I changed mine at the 100 mile mark, (oil only). Then at 500, 1K and 3K, all on Delo 15W-40. At 6K switched to Amsoil 15W-40. I know Amsoil makes a 5W-30 diesel oil that you may want to consider for the winter months. Don't have the cold problem out here in So Cal.
Your fuel filter should be OK until 8K-10K mark. I know some guys go with changing them every other oil change. I cut one open on mine that went 12K and it wasn't to bad, but trying to stay under 10K on them. I planning on a 2nd filter very soon. Good Luck!

Ltrainracing,

Shell Rotella is quite popular among truckers. I recommend it after lots of mileage using it.

Fuel filter is supposed to be good for 15,000 miles or so....especially if you don't tow and have high fuel consumption. Forget about it for now.

What is the recommended rear end lube to use? Any friction modifiers?

Since you are at 1K I would suggest changing the engine oil & filter (Rotella T & AC delco filter), trans oil & filter, and rear diff(Gm oil), or what ever you want. :D

Since you guys mentioned Rotella....
I just finally found a dist. in my area to get
5-40 syn. Price isn't too bad, 14.40/gal.
Was getting it at Walmart around 12.00/gal but havn't seen it in awhile there.
Anyway, just wondering if you guys know of a place to order it online maybe? I know this is alot cheaper than I've seen Mobil advertised for, just wondering how much you guys find it for?
Wasn't sure what to do for oil when my Walmart supply went dry. Been using Rotella syn. since about 13,000 mi.(24,500 now)

Actually, I'm at 6,000 mi on oil now, found this place last week, got my 5 gal. last night smile.gif

This has been my recommendation for the Dmax, with the exception of oil. I see high Silicon in these engines, and we need to flush it out. Once we are clean, I use Mobil Delvac 1. 30w is too light for a diesel's shock load, and Rotella's budget synthetic pales in comparison to Delvac IMHO.

Guess I should have asked you before.
That's where I got it! It's about 5 mi. from where I work.

As far as Mobil being better.......I'll be buying 5 more gallons in 10k or so miles, I'll have to look at results of this analysis and make a decision from there.
I don't expect to go past 6k on changes, I'm thinking Rotella is doing the job just fine...but we'll see. I'll be happy to share/compare analysis results with anyone on Delvac1.
Also, planning another analysis @ mid-late winter change to give me an idea how Rotella is holding up to the plow.

maxin,

I stay with the GM grape juice (warranty??). I get it from gmpartsdirect or dmaxallitech. You don't need any friction modifers since it is a locker and not a limited slip unit.

Good luck,
Bob
