Turbo to Manifold

quick question. I have been trying to find a gasket to go between the turbo and exhaust manifold. According to GM one is not required. however when we changed motors i removed the turbo from the manifold it had a metal backed gasket between the turbo and exhaust manifold. Should there be one there or not?

When I pulled mine there wasn't any gasket.

During the rebuild of my motor, I removed the turbo and there was no gasket. The turbo shop that did my turbo reman gave me a stamped metal gasket about the thickness of a business card.

I'm using it.
