Ok,
I have a strange noise at about 65MPH and up on the riders side that sounds like sand hitting the side mirror or windshield kinda like small abrasive particules or something. I have no idea what that is but it sounds like riding behind a sand truck and being blasted with what is blowing off. I looked at the winshield and mirror but no sign of anything abrasive hitting it. Anybody know anything about that matter?
This truck is becoming a hobby with me that I wasn't expecting.

If you have the floor shift for 4wd hold the lever when you hear this noise. I have a similar nosie that sounds like sand hitting the windshield. If I hold the lever it goes away. I grease all of the linkages and the noise stays away for about 10k miles.

I have the same noise that you refer to. I thought it was an outside trim piece on the windshield rattling. It doesn't do it all the time...mostly when there is a cross wind.

My truck made the same noise because of the bug shield on the front of the hood. I took the shield off and the noise went away.

Hmmm,
I'm gonna look into that bug shield issue this weekend. I have one and that thing is history if it cures the problem
Thanks

Bugsy,

"I have a strange noise at about 65MPH and up on the riders side that sounds like sand hitting the side mirror or windshield..."

That noise was described on '01/'02 trucks with various bug deflectors, and was caused by loose trim pieces around the windshield. Removing the deflector often solved the noise problem. Good luck

I experienced this same problem after installing a bug shield. I found the culprit was the rubber strip on the side of the windshield on the a-pillars. I put

My Dealer says there is a TSB out on this and he installed a new trim piece on both sides of my windshield. I have not tried to run at highway speed yet.

I have an appointment with the dealer to look at the strip along side the windshield. I kinda want the bug shield on there so I'll let Chevrolet hassle with it.
Also, I had 2 injectors replaced at 8,800 miles and the updadated computer fix for smoking and stinking. Still smokes and stinks.
This truck was bought in June 2004 and I'm afraid to get on the road with it since the engine runs good one day and bad the next.
Who knew?

Dealer glued the side windshield mouldings down and the noise is gone. Apparently the mouldings are loose from the factory because the Service Manager said it is a common problem.

I used some double sided 3M tape (from AutoZone or Wal-mart) to secure the molding. See the following threads for more info...

The little rubber flaps that cover the hood hinges could also be the culprit. Mine flap up and down at highway speed, making a similiar sound.
