How many are running dual 105 amp alternators?, I had information that the 05 LLY's had a 145 amp, and that the snow plow prep package was up to 165 amps. However when I ordered ours, they only offered the dual alternators at 210 amps. So we did and the only drawback I see is like dual anything, I'll be replacing in pairs, on one now and one later. smile.gif

tanker,

My '01 came equipped with a single 105A alternator. I converted to a dual alt set up almost three years ago and installed a 200A Powermaster on the driver's side. No problems so far with almost 20K miles on the dual alts.

Is it posable to add A larger secound alt. I was thinking I would use A 165 or more and isolate it to charge trailer only. do all the deferent amp alt. use the same pully and belt.

Thanks Mike

Mike Wiener,

I'm running the OEM 105A with a 200A Powermaster with no problems.

Here is a link to a topic with instructions for adding dual alts to ' a 01/'02 Duramax (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=001640).

The serp belt length/part# will vary by model year, equipment, and emissions (CA vs Fed). The dual alt serp belt part# for an '01 Fed emissions with A/C is 97223131.

Below is a cut/past from a number of my notes, so sorry if it not organized...

1) The '01 BASE alternator is described as a Delphi AD230 with 102A output.

2) The OPTIONAL alt is a Delphi AD244 130A.

3) Also listed a Bosch 15755900 130A as an optional alt.

It is my understanding that you can mix/match alts - both do NOT have to be the same. I have the OEM Delphi AD230 as the aux alt, and a Powermaster 200A as the primary.

Here are the part numbers that I used on my '01. The serp belt and the idler pulley are different for '02, and different serp belt for CA emission equipped trucks - I don't know the other numbers for different serp belts.

REQUIRED GM PART #S :

1) Bracket for left (DS) alternator 97212348
2) Bolt for alt lower ear to cast Al engine mount 11516360 Quantity (1)
3) Bolt for new bracket to cast AL engine mount 94009975
4) Bolt for Alt upper ear to new bracket 94009975
5) Idler pulley '01 - 97233352
6) Idler pulley bolt 11515769
7) Serp Belt (varies w/year, emissions and equipment) '01 Fed emissions w/AC - 97223131 '02 Fed emissions w/AC - 97300655
8) ECU terminal -> (same terminals, different part #s) #12084913 is for QUANTITY 5 terminals, #12084912 is for QUANTITY 10 terminals

I got these two part numbers from Mav:

15306071 1 each 4 position alt connector
15321209 1 each Fusible link

The x9975 bolts MAY have been changed to x9976, and I believe it is a packaging change from (5) to (10) bolts. I bought my parts from GM Parts Direct, and after the order, they called me since the x9975 bolt changed to x9976 bolt - the x9976 part# is for a (10) bolt package and GM Parts Direct would not sell them per bolt @ $0.61 each.

For '01/'02, add a terminal to the ECU @ C1-32 using the same procedure as for the high idle and ODLO - see Kennedy's site for the Tech Tips. Run this wire from the ECU to the 4 position alt connector that plugs into the alt. The (4) position alt connector with (2) empty positions and the BROWN/GREY OEM wiring goes to the primary alt.

The added terminal/wire from ECM terminal C1-32 goes to the BROWN position in the AUX (4) position alt connector

Just finished the instal of dual 130 amp. Orderd thru gm parts derict. It toke about a mounth for the order. But every thing was there and at A much cheaper price.

The instalation went smothly. Till the last thing the belt. I orderd the belt that was listed in the post for the set up. Knowing this belt was for the 2002 non Cal truck. I figered I would try it. As in trying to find a listing for A cal 2001 truck went no where Gates shows no listing for the dual gen. set up for any year. With some weineing  and pleding I got the chevy parts guy to try and find some thing on the computer. (can't help with modafacations) Came up with same part number as the parts list.

Ok now that I have bored every one to no end. The belt seams to be about one inch to short. Was able to get it on but I think it is too tight. surpintins sould be snug not tight right?
Is there a spec for it? Any light on this would help. Thank You

I ordered my '05 with the dual 105 amp alternator option. Only was a $210 option. I don't know what things I will add yet but the power is there, should the need arrise.

I have noticed that when first started the volts are at 13ish at start up. My LB7, with a single alternator, would hold 10ish volts for about 20 seconds after start up then rise to 13ish volts(It did that since it was new)

These trucks rely heavily on electronics. I'm glad I got the dual alternators. My $.02

I would have liked to order them when I ordered my truck. It would have been less then adding it later. Like I did.
