Code Reader

Hey DP members, I just bought a code reader but was wondering if any of you knew the product and if it was ok to use in my 94 pick up. I bought it at Wal Mart and it's a GM Code Reader for GM 1982 to 1995 Domestic Cars and Trucks, made by INNOVA out of Fountain Valley, Ca. The manual says that includes all models of truck and vans with gas but excludes Cadillacs and diesel vehicles. why would this be?

I would say its a numbers thing. Only what ever the number is maybe what 3-5% of gm's light trucks are diesel. The OBD stuff is probably near identical for cars/trucks as long as they are all gassers.

Diesels have diesel specific codes ie wastegate codes and injection pump specific codes. The PCM program is vastly different from a gas truck I would say.
