I recently purchased a 2005 Duramax Diesel. Put a post up regarding a ticking noise at the higher end of my low gears and in 5th gear at higher speed. Most have suggested it's the pilot injector shutting off. I've gone back and read old posts on this topic and have come to the conclusion this is probably what's causing the noise. My question is: Can this noise start occuring at only 2,000 RPM's? This is when I generally being hearing the ticking. Most of what I read sounded like they shut off at 2,600RPM's? Could mine be sticking?

It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between good and bad noises till acquiring more experience with diesel engines. Changes in fuel quality, ambient conditions and driving style can all produce slight differences in the way a diesel engine might sound.

If you believe a problem exists, I'd visit your dealer or locate another Duramax owner to help you decide whether a problem exists.
