View Full Version : Possible? Radio dead after Edge Install.

I just had my edge reflashed, and after the install my stereo decided to stop turning on. I have an aftermarket Kenwood and there is the possibility that it just fried, but here is the interesting thing.

If I pull the fuse to the radio under the hood, and start the truck, then reinstall the radio works. Unfortuneately on the next restart, nothing.

I was just thinking out loud here, but is it possible that I fried something when installing the juice. I did not remove the battery connectors when I did the install and that is what is concerning me.

I really don't want to pull the radio and send it in for service only to find out that it is fine. On the same note, I don't want to find out that I fried something in my truck.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This may have nothing to do with your problem, but
some radios have a over voltage shut down circuit.
This circuit can be triggered by electrical noise,
or a high voltage at the power input.

It is possible that you have a bad radio, but it may
be possible that the sensor is detecting a voltage
spkie when starting, or when the alternator is in
"high charge" mode after you start the engine.

You might want to try removing the fuse to get the radio working, and at the next start, see if the radio works by turning the key to "ACC" before you
start the engine.

Other than voltage and ground, the radio also gets a vehicle speed signal input. Other than that, I can't see an Edge installation having much to do with the radio.

Does the radio operate normally without the Edge installed?

The good news is the truck is fine. The bad news is the radio is toast.

I swapped the radio out with my wifes, and it fired right up.

I guess it was just its time to go.

MP, the radio does not work at all with or without the edge installed.

I tried to pull the fuse and then start the radio using the key in the ACC position and again nothing. I cannot get it to repeat the pulled fuse turn on trick anymore either.

I am going to chalk this one up to coincidence.

Thanks for the input guys.
