Exhaust mods for LLY motor?

I was wondering what exhaust mods there is or will be for the 2004 LLY motor? The new trucks have catalytic converters now. And the dealership makes you sign a waiver stating that if you modify the exhaust in any way that it voids your manufacturers warranty. Just curious, about your thoughts on this :confused: ?

go to a differnt dealer! there are laws that the dealer has to prove any aftermarket parts caused the problem that its in for!!!! exhaust systems will help the motor run cooler.... maybe even raise the smoke output slightly but the sticker guy is the one to check for that :rolleyes:

Hmmm? So if you had a new 2004 LLY you would take/cut off the cat converter? Something tells me the federal government/state is going to step in in the near future and put strict emission controls on our diesels. Why else would my new truck have one. Even chrysler is putting cats on there 2004 trucks.

there isnt any manufacture that can stop you from doing ANY cat back exhaust system changes! THE FEDS CANT DO ANYTHING! I have heard that a cat can be slightly moded by putting a pipe strait threw it ;) If you noticed my new truck is 2004 lly..... picked it up sat. Lets hope this thing rocks like my 01 with hot juice! I dont know if I will put a pipe threw the cat on this truck just because in 2006 the emission laws are changeing ! My 98 6.5td had a moded cat on it, the sticker guys just had to look for it not test for smoke back then!

Ok, let me ask this. Does anyone currently make a stainless cat back system for the 2004 LLY's?
5 inch would look nice, but would there really be any gains other than looks? It appears to me that to get real good performance, you would definitly have to modify the cat. I actually gutted a cat on a 6.5TD that I had one time and it worked good, but i'm not interested in doing it on this truck. The factory exhaust already seems big enough. I think i'll just keep my new truck stock for now. No need to tear it up so early in its life.

You might not want to do anything with the cat. Reports I've had that the 6.0L Ford actually loses hp with the cat removed. This is due to the variable vane turbo needing some back pressure. Although I have a customer that has changed his exhuast (no kitty), and along with an AFE airfilter,and BD Lightning with attitude flat hauls butt. I am not sure if with my hot juice with attitude I can take him. I'm in the market for tranny upgrades before I try it. tpitt

Hey tpitt, this is a little off subject. But how do you like your 45gal Transferflow tank? Does it hang alot lower than the stock one? The tank size on these short boxes is one thing that irritates me. I don't understand why the GM won't put bigger tanks in these trucks. Maybe they are unsafe in accidents?

The tank does hang a little lower than stock, but not bad. I also have the big nozzle with it so it makes it a lot easier to fill. I would recommend it to anyone. tpitt

Off topic too. When are you gonna put in that CAT
filter? I just pulled out the RACOR and slapped in
the CAT. The truck just purrs now :D
