I think that your horn problem is fairly common. My mom has a 99 and the horn on it sounds like a clown car. On my 93 the horn is fairly loud and had a good tone to it, so maybe you could just replace your horns with a set out of the junk yard from an older vehicle. They would be similar to the origonal and have a good sound to them. Just a thought.

You can get a set of air horns for about $30-40. I stuck a cheapy pair on my motorhome and now they hear me coming through.
Here's a good source: Wolo Air Horns (http://www.wolo-mfg.com/air.htm) All the horns can be tested on their site for the sound you want. I bought the 417s for the "big rig" sound.
Then you can say CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

If you want REALY LOUD, try a set of aftermarket railroad horns. If your sanding within 20 ft of them they will make your feet hurt!
Lots of fun when near RR crossing and you see that one *&^$@#% that has to stradle the tracks.
I've worked arround a couple trucks that had them and they cost arround $500.00.

I don't want something obnoxious, just loud enough to say my truck is bigger than your car so don't cut me off. I don't want it to sound like a Mack truck but instead a big Suburban.

These used to slow you down when you blew them...

BTW, Dr. Lee came up with a good set of electrics. How about a reprise?

Most people go the other way. They put a Cummins in a Chevy. That was some feat puting a 6.5 into a Dodge! :D
Back then I had to take what I could get. The price was right...
