LLY Duramax 6600
Technology changes for 2004
http://www.thedieselpage.com/duramax/lly2004.htm
The 2001 through mid model-year 2004 Duramax 6600 diesel engine was designated RPO (Regular Production Option) code LB7. Enter the LLY... Introduced in January of 2004, the RPO code LLY Duramax 6600 incorporates a number of significant technology changes. The technology changes introduced with the LLY help create an engine with more power and lower emissions. Go here for the details.
Good article! smile.gif As a side note, there is a reformulation of diesel fuel taking place in 2006, in preparation for the 2007 standards. The exhaust after-treatment technology will become interesting in the years past 2007.

Yea, so get a load of this: I bought a Duramax off E-bay for a project I'm working on. It was listed as a 2003 model, and his pictures clearly showed an LB7 motor. Guess what showed up at the loading dock? Yep, an LLY, with production stickers showing it being assembled on Dec 18, 2003. Clearly the guy who did the ripout did not know the difference, because I got it for peanuts (well, what you'd expect to pay for a used LB7). I'm pretty stoked about it. I was planning on using a Hypertech tuner and was wondering if anyone here knows for sure if the same Hypertech programming will work with the LLY, or if I need to go with something else.
Thanks!

Finally Picked up my 2004 SRW 3500 D/A friday.
Also asked the parts dept. for the "new LLY" fuel filter and they had just received it. PRONLEM!!
Part number on filter (and it is white) is not the same that is in the Durmaz manual received with truck ??? Anyone know the correct number?
Runs great went to Reno from Bay area on 80 and returned on a mountain road. Computer shows 21.2 mpg. only has 550 miles now.
Brian.. I ordered the same truck (except no leather and marine blue metallic) 10 days ago. How long did it take for you to get yours? BTW I live in
Fremont also.
Well Brian, I answered my own quetion by looking at your previous posts. Hope mine dosen't take as long as yours did!

Brian,
I must of missed something when I ordered mine a few weeks ago. Did your truck come with a fuel computer or did you install one?
Dennis
With all the concerns we have read (and many have acted on)about fuel filtration, does anyone know why GM did not address that issue along with all the other changes made on the new engine?
Are they just waiting for the more stringent (cleaner) fuel standards in to hit in a few years?

LT comes standard with all the computer read outs.
The filter the dealer gave me shows P/N on packing slip as 97363539. $57.87

Does anyone know if the new filter will interchange with the 2003 filter? Or maybe the housing will replace the old one and we could use the new filter. I am guessing the new one is a better filter(lower micron count?) Any idea's ?

McRat,
I have a TPW of March 15, so I am expecting delivery will be sometime during the first week of
April - just about 2 months for me also - a VERY LONG two months!

Cowboy,
From what I remember reading on previous posts they said the filters were not interchangable. I'm not sure about the mount, but I think that won't fit either. Maybe someone else can chime in to confirm that. More Power? Later

NEW FILTER LOOKS LIKE A DIRECT FIT TO THE OLDER LB7 TRUCK! HOW MUCH BETTER ????? WHO KNOWS! SOME TESTING WILL NEED TO BE DONE!
OK has anybody checked? Will the new filter fit the LB7 and is it any better?
