I notice a distinct difference in power and mileage when using winterized diesel. By winterized I mean it is cut with #1 at varying rates according to temp. Is there a way to add back the btu's and not defeat the anti-gel characteristics of cut diesel???

I find that using a Grille Cover (http://community.webshots.com/photo/63497470/103356739mpWojf) and good additive helps maintain mileage with winter fuel …(although still not as good as summer fuel). The cover allows the engine up warm up faster and maintain operating temp. From what I've seen the benefit is about .5 to 1 mpg max depending on driving conditions (i.e. temp, length of trip, etc).

this is to be expected. If you look in the Diesel suppliment in your owners manual, it states that winter diesel will be harder on fuel economy and also harder on performance.

In winter time one of the things you want to do is find out what the cetane rating of your fuel is. The higher the cetane level the quicker burn you will get. Try to find a cetane level of 40 or higher. Also Lubrication Engineers makes an additive called BTU Total Treat that helps in cold weather and also keeps injectors clean.
