Read about this on another forum…
A new version of 5W-40 Mobil-1 with a CI-4 API rating retail priced at about $5/qt. :cool:

It appears to be re-labeled Delvac-1 that will be sold through retail outlets (chain stores, auto parts stores, etc). I just read through some posts in the Bobistheoilguy forum (http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005265) that contain a picture of the new M1 bottle/label. One poster called Mobil and they confirmed that the new Truck/SUV M1 IS re-labeled Delvac-1. Very interesting if true…
Also... I didn't find a listing for the new Truck/SUV M1 in the API license directory (http://eolcs.api.org/) ... probably just because it's new.. however it's interesting to see who else sells relabeled products both ExxonMobil and others ...Click HERE (http://eolcs.api.org/DisplayBrandNames.asp) to display a list of Brand Names belonging to Engine Oil Licensees.

Last weekend I changed the oil in one of my gassers and switched to Delvac 1. The factory fill on this car was synthetic, and Delvac 1 met/exceeded the required API specification.
I was considering buying Delvac 1 in bulk since it is hard to find locally. If the new Mobil 1 Truck and SUV oil is indeed rebadged Delvac 1, this is good news :D Thanks for the info.
I was browsing the Mobil-1 site (http://www.mobil1.com) and I noticed they now have a complete data sheet on the new 5w40 Truck & SUV Formula. It's interesting to compare Truck/SUV and DELVAC-1 data sheets. The "Typical Properties" are identical but the DELVAC-1 lists several more comercial diesel certifications. It would appear the only difference between DELVAC-1 and the Mobil1 Truck/SUV is marketing... (??)

One product is marketed for the consumer, the other for the OTR industry. Surprised it took Mobil this long to figure out there was a retail interest for their product.
The data sheets have been there since late January, least that's when I first noticed them. Noticed the product anouncement started popping up on a couple of other forums I read in the late November timeframe.
I am asking the same question as Bill, anybody seen the new product yet at a retail outlet? I hope they market it in gallon containers!

I bought the new stuff at Walmart yesterday. It's called Mobile 1 Truck & SUV, and is sold in box of 6 one quart bottles for $28.

Doug Thanks Doug! :cool: $18.66/gal is a pretty good price for re-badged DELVAC-1. Hopefully the new Truck & SUV oil will make it's way to the east coast soon.

This quote from elsewhere raises a question concerning massive amounts of oil in the crankcase:
CH-4 is a slightly older spec that also is supposed to deal with EPA-mandated emissions redesign, primarily the design of the piston. This is an extension of the first such controls from the early 90's.
The piston is redesigned to reduce blow-by and particulates that used to shoot out the stack. This is done by moving the ring land area, especially the Top Grove, much closer to the top of the piston, the crown land.
The Top Grove compression ring now sees much higher temps than it used to. As a result, a weaker oil can break down and create carbon/sludge/varnish deposits in the Top Grove.
Eventually, the Top Grove compression ring will stick and/or break. The combustion gasses can then venture lower and take out the other rings and oil control ring.
Also, if Top Grove fill is allowed to happen, the carbon and varnish act as an abrasive and quickly wear away the crosshatch pattern on the liner or cylinder wall. You then get massive oil consumption. I think Top Grove fill is set at around 14% max in controlled tests.

When the injectors went South on my DuraMax I drove for (perhaps) 500 to 1000 miles on diluted oil. Should I (we) worry about this?
Is the Delvac that much better than the Shell Rotella 5w40 synthetic? My oil analysis results have been very good with the shell. better than they were with the amsoil. and its only 12.88 a gallon at Walmart.
I too had my injectors go and who knows how much diesel in the crankcase or for how long. Yes I am concerned about the engine as well because I'm not sure when it started to leak into the oil. I did send in an analysis and am waiting to hear, but how reliable will it be if it was constantly being flushed with diesel coming into the crankcase? I'm hoping that the synthetic may have lessened any possible wear.
but on the topic, I like the shell rotella synthetic and I like the price!

I also saw the Rotella synthetic at Wal Mart. But it does not have the CI-4 certification. Funny, the regular Rotella does have it. CI-4 is supposedly important for new motors with EGR.
