2002 CHEVY 3/4T. 4X4 EXT. CAB. -- FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN WORKING/NOT WORKING FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS NOW -- FINALLY GOT TIRED OF THE LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE TRUCK IN -- NEW SENDING UNIT IN THE TANK -- TOTAL BILL AROUND $800.00 -- DUE TO 70,000 MILES - NO WARRANTY!

THEY SAID THAT GM WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THESE DUE TO DIESEL ADDITIVES AND RE-FORMULATIONS OF FUEL!

ANYBODY ELSE HAVING PROBLEMS??? BILL

My 02 has 372k on it and never a problem with the guage and I USE fuel additive every other tankful in a 115 gal tank.

Fence Man,

I remember reading a few posts from folks who have had problems with their fuel sender. You could also try seaching the forum for "fuel gauge" for more info. Here is one related post I found...

GM had problems with the gasoline sending units. due to a new plating process applied to the wiper element. The gasoline reacted with the plating and formed an oxide, creating a high resistance in the circuit.

my understanding is that due to the high oxygen content in diesel fuel naked wipers cant be used due to posible sparking, end result explosion within the fuel tank.

Had mine replaced twice. Kept running out of fuel at 1/4 tanke

It still doesnt work as good as I would like.
