I was lubing my 2002 crew cab with D/A (front brush guard off) and noticed a pipe coming down front passenger side of engine, close to the lowermost pulley. Pipe is pointing straight down with nothing on the end. There was some soot and diesel oil around end of this pipe.
What is this pipe?
No expert but I would tend to believe it's the crankcase ventilation ......Or it sounds like it.....I thought it was on the drivers side......A change in 02 ??

This is what they referred to in the "olden days" as a "road draft tube" which as Mackin stated is a simple crankcase vent. Many have extended this tube slightly to keep the vaoprs from getting on the chassis. I clamped a section of some old red 5/8" heater hose to mine.

Mackin and Kennedy:
Thanks for the replies. I think I will put a length of red rubber hose on mine because the tube ends just over some wiring. The wiring in encased in oil and dirt.
Thanks again
That's how they got it to pass emissions. They pump the bad out that tube ;)
