My AC compressor froze up a few weeks ago and took out my serpentine belt etc.. which has sidelined the truck. I tore the compressor apart and the pump had grenaded (pump was fine). The bearing races were rusty and looked like they had been beat with a hammer, and the thing started dropping balls the moment I put the puller on it.

Normally this wouldn't be a big deal. A new compressor and belt and I'm off and running. The problem is that the truck is an 85 6.2L updated with a lot of 6.5 TD parts (incl. turbo). Notice I said serpentine belt in the previous paragraph. I guess 85's don't have those. I found a 96 6.5 TD picture and it looks nothing like mine. I am hoping someone can send me a pic of their pre '96 6.5 TD so I can figure out if that is what I have or not.. (jzz1r9(at)aol.com)

I'd post a pic of mine, but I don't have a good website to stick it on.. If someone has a good trick for that let me know.

ANY info is appreciated!

Thanks, Chad

The 1988 to 1995 (90's body style) diesels used a short/fat compressor mounted to the passenger side of the engine as shown in this photo.

In 1996, GM began using a longer style that mounts more to the driver's side of the engine, as shown in the recent article on A/C Servicing (http://www.thedieselpage.com/features/airconditioning.htm).
