...What would you do with it before the rebuild?

I intend on Balancing & Low Compression Pistons. I want Big Power & Reliability.

Would you install Splayed Caps? Do they need it? Have you done it?

I will know more Monday, but I think I found one...

Billman,

I thought the navistar block has already splayed caps. :D

Kennedy has said it, and I stand by it but I'd splay even the latest block. It's the design of the block that's flawed, they can work with the type of alloy to use for the block and make the main webs thicker, but I still think it needs work for anything above the stock HP/TQ mark.

If I could have scored a Navistar block, it still would have received splayed mains...

Why install splayed mains on the new block? I know it can't hurt but isn't the block better built in the problem areas and the block material better as well?

IMHO- If rebuilding a bare block and you KNOW you want to get in the 300+hp range then I think you should do EVERYTHING possible. Splayed mains, stud girdle, GEP Navistar block, super good head gaskets ect....
Either all that or dump in a Cummins. tongue.gif
I love my 6.5 and will never own a different motor in my truck but I really think that for tons of power you need to keep the holes in straight line and not a vee. Then again I've never desinged a motor! :D

Yea... Splay the mains. That's what I figured you guys would say. For the Ultimate in Foundations, That would be the way to go. I should have known better.

This is a low mileage Shortblock. Option to buy Long if I want.

Is the Navistar Logo cast only in the Valley?

Howdy
On my 2004 AMG navistar longblock the logo was cast into the valley. I don't know about other years???? Another thing that I think I would do is increase the oil cooler capacity/efficiency and also put an oil temp sensor in the pan while you have it out. Also take carte of the lines :D
