Our dually with the 6.2 shows 40 psi or more oil pressure at startup. Once oil is warmed up, and vehicle at idle speed, pressure gauge reads about 8 psi. Goes back up tp 40 psi or so once you touch the accelerator. It does not take to much pressure on the accelerator to build the pressure back up, but 8 psi seems low. Worry about going down a long hill, with high rpms on the engine but low oil pressure. Any thoughts or comments?

Given your scenario, why would the oil pressure be low if the rpms are high on decel?

That sounds similar to what I had prior to doing a re-ring on the K30. I had one spun cam bearing, which I suspect was the culprit. On my engine, as long as the revs were up it seemed OK. Sitting at idle was where it really showed up.

It acts strange. When I first start the engine, the oil pressure is at 40 psi or so at idle. Once the engine is warmed up, at idle the pressure is 8 psi or so. The oil pressure goes up quickly when I depress the accelerator. I have not checked it recently coasting down hill. The engine speed may keep the pressure up. I was thinking that I needed to depress the accelerator but am probably wrong.

Craig,
My '83 duallie was showing me the same indication. Very Low pressure at idle(close to zero), normal while driving. The original sender unit had been installed on the replacement engine. I replaced the sender, and the readings came back to normal. A secondary benefit with the new sender is the wrench point is on top. Got mine at Auto Zone.
