Temp Sender Again

I know that there have ben a lot of posts about temp sender locations but what i am wondering is if I remove it to put in a mechanical gage will that effect anything other than the dummy light will not work any more? Also where would the best place to tap into for a mechanical oil pressure gage.

Correct on the temp switch replacement.

Check Dr Lee's Forum for MHagie's truck pics - shows a good method of tapping the oil pressure system.

Just do a "search" there for "MHagie" - might even be in this Forum, also.

i Checked out the pics and saw the manifold, but where does it start from and what all is hooked to it?

The original oil pressure switch is at the rear of the block, to the driver's-side of center in the vee.
Should be 1/4" npt.

Hey all,
I've wondered about the temp sending unit in the past... I'd like to go with a mech gage, as I have sevral around from other trucks. If the temp sending unit only sends a signal to the idiot light, what controls the high idle, and tells it what to do?

That switch is usually in the passenger-side head, rear.
Also one in the t-stat crossover for the glow plug system.

Varies, year-to-year.

does the original oil pressure switch have any affect on any thing else or can that be eliminated also?

I'd say none, if it is a single-wire connection.
No oil pressure should just ground the indicator lamp, turning it on.

Later years also have the electric lift pump function, with three wires in the connector.
