Will any of you guys out there with mechanical injection check your underhood decals and let me know what it says is the correct number for timing.
The books don't tell you anything they just say to refer to decal.
Won't work for me as mine was a 400 small block.
Thanks Merle

My K10 didn't give a figure, it just said that timing was set at the factory and didn't need to be adjusted (or something to that effect.) My current truck (the C1500) used to be a gasser as well.

IIRC, dieselboy had a pretty good writeup on his timing results. I think it is posted here somewhere or ifnot for sure at oliverdiesel.com.

None of my trucks have anything about timing on the sticker either!

This timing thing is something I really have questions on to, which being better the BTDC ATDC, I dunno.

I've got a partial timing meter w/o much instructions, I need to get in touch with the $napon guy and get the remaining parts to have a working unit.

I had my timing set at a local shop who was using a Stanadyne pulse timing meter. All he did was hook the pickup on the balancer and the pulse adaptor on the injection line on #1.

When we checked the timimg just after installing the gearset and new injection pump I was getting nearly 9* BTDC, way out. His meter used BTDC readings. The chart he was using said using 4.5* at 1400RPM. I don't recall what it was idle though.

We set the engine at 6.5* BTDC because there was a note about adding 2* for high altitude which I'm borderline here.

There result, the engine has the P.S. sound to a point.

The bad about this setting, Near red line full throttle punch right before and after a shift it gets a rattle. This pretty much means that it's going to tear itself up at that point, too much advance.
It does sound cool though, but I know it's bad. I'm going to leave it alone right now, mainly because this engine is now junk anyways.
