I understand that the 6.5 Serpantine and the 6.2 V-belt water pumps turn in opposite directions. I am looking at my water pump and it really looks like the blades go the "wrong" way.
When viewed from the front, my engine rotates clockwise. The vanes on the waterpump spiral out from the center in a counter clockwise direction.
It just 'looks' like as the pump spins it really isn't moving that much water.
Even with the t-stat out, when looking down into the neck of the radiator there doesn't appear to be that much water moving.
So is this the way the H2O pump is supposed to look or did I get a 6.5 pump by mistake when I rebuilt the engine?

Good question.

That is a centrifugal impeller pump - the impeller blades do appear to be curved in the wrong direction.

However - coolant enters thru the center, is forced outward off the outside curvature of the blades, and into the two channels to the engine block.

Works fine, lasts a long time.......

Thanks for the reply.

OK, check off improper H2O pump as cause of overheating :D

Open the hood of any C-K truck with 6.2L, check the radiator core size, noting also the 20" diameter fan.

If you're not seeing the dimensional equiv in your 'Rover, your search is over ;)

The rad in the donner vehicle was 40 inches wide, I only have 31 to work with.
