has anyone installed a banks stinger system on a NA 6.2 ??

what sort of results did you see ?

I know folks have done this modification. Sorry it is taking so long to get a reply. I am also curious to know what kind of results this system makes.

Additionally, not to try and thread jack, but what alternative exhaust systems exist that are comparable to the stinger. Is the stinger upgradeable without too much hassle?

A few years back, with help we put a Banks system on my boys 85 Chevy 6.2L NA. It was a big improvment in the trucks performance. Any time you can get a engine to breath better it will run better. The Banks turbo works well and pushes enough air in to the engine to get it to run nicely. We have since put a 99 6.5L in to the 85 Chevy and added the Banks system right on to the engine. I think it has been 6 years ago since we got the Banks, and everything is working just fine.

Sorry to chime in here.
IMHO the Banks stinger System does NOT include a turbo but only a modified air cleaner housing(?) and a 3" 2 in 1 exhaust system.

Interesting thing would be to know if a factory installed 2 1/4" double exhaust system is far behind the Stinger system.

I sit here and could not remember if that system had the turbo or not. I thought I would chance it. The DOC swears up and down he don,t need a turbo. But he has his truck breathing very freely. Go with the turbo if you want to wake that 6.2l up a bit. The DOC uses other tech issues to get his to burn a path to his parking spot.

I've got a Stinger on my 88 Burb. Bought it from Mopac in Vancouver, they did the install. The installer did not increase the fuel flow as recommended in the manual that comes with the kit, because he thought he would have to put a new gasket on the IP (my kit was the first install of the kit for the shop). Even without the extra fuel, I did notice more grunt at higher speeds (like merging onto the highway) right after the install. I had the fuel turned up a few weeks later, got more power at lower RPM as well.

The kit is pretty good, but it is not cheap. I suspect that you could pay a lot less and have a custom-made 3" dual exhaust made for you at a good muffler shop. As long as you have reduced the back pressure in your exhaust system (get free flowing mufflers) compared to stock, you can flow more exhaust than stock.

If you go the custom exhaust route, you will still need to increase airflow to your engine, so you can increase the fuel flow. You could easily fab up the same air cleaner arrangement as Banks has in their kit.

I looked at the factory y-pipe, it doesn't look too restrictive, it is 2-1/2 into 3 on the p-side and a 2-1/2 into the 3 inch from the d-side.

I think I'll just replace the crappy looking muffler and crush bent exhaust from the y-pipe back with a good 3" system.

Rob C, did you find the pyrometer that comes with the kit to be useful ?

I don't tow much any more (the occasional small utility trailer), so I don't get as much use out of the pyro as do others on this page. However, I find it is very good for driving in the mountains (highway 3... some steep climbs), as I can see if I need to back off the pedal to keep the EGTs down. If you tow, or if you are going to tweak the engine for more airflow so that you can adjust the fuel for more power, you will certainly want to use the pyro. Would be dangerous (and maybe expensive) not to.
