Would anyone know where I could go to get my VIN number broken down?
I want to know what my truck was originally equiped with.

What are your vin #'s? A good friend of mine is the parts mgr. of the local Chev. dealership. So I can get it all broken down for you. Get them to me and I'll call Lynn.

There are a couple of free ones on line. Go to google and search for vin number. There are couple of "pay" ones that will also come up, but check out a couple and you will find the free one.

1G8GC26J0EF149427

This is what I know:
1984 C20 SUBURBAN
6.2 / T400 / 2WD
It was a fire truck.

VIN tag breakdown;
1= U.S. built
G= General Motors
8= Chev MPV
G= GVWR/brake system 8001-9000 hyd.
C= Conventional Cab 4x2
2= 3/4 ton
6= Suburban
J= 6.2 Diesel
0= Check Digit
E= 1984
F= Flint Michigan
149427= Prodution sequence number

For the ultimate info (in the U.S.)call GM customer service 1-800-222-1020, Give them your VIN# and request a "Restoration Packet". It's a free service from GM. They say wait 6-8weeks for the mail and you will receive info about your truck such as: original paint & interior color
-prodution/shipping dates
-quantity of same model produced
-original engine number
-original selling dealer & location
-special options
-engineering specifications

Only difference is here it cost $45.00cdn and it's 2-3weeks delivery. they have most info for all GM vehicles going back to 1946.
