I have an 84 Sub with a 6.2/banks, T400/4:10 set up. I am looking into picking up a new trailer which is 1500+ lbs more than our current unit.
The new trailer is 4100 lbs. dry which will dress out at 5100 or so. I have no trouble pulling my old unit but don't want to push it. What weight trailer would be safe to pull? I'm not sure what the factory specs were for towing with my rig.
Every manufacturer says you can pull their rig with a 6 cyl mini van but I doubt that. I have been planning to install a G.V. unit which will help on those hills but the trailer might come first. I would like to hear what others are pulling (weight) with similar set up vehicles.

Thanks

I take it this is a 1500.
You'll be just fine with the new trailer :D
Would stay under 7000#
As with any towing a EGT gauge is most important and if you don't have one, get one please. Than you need not worry about if you'll damage the motor.
You could have room for more power using the EGT as a guide.
May be able to turn pump up some.
On Edit;
Ex-Fire truck with 4:10
Must be a 2500 than,even better.

My truck is a 3/4T. I do have a EGT guage and keep one eye on it at all times while towing.
I always make sure I never go over 1050 Deg. Thanks for the info

At what point is the EGT probe installed.
Crossover before turbo?
After turbo on down pipe?

I have to look but I think it is directly after the Turbo. I remember my mechanic telling me it was critical to install the probe in the correct place for an accurate reading.

If after turbo than don't even hold at 1,000deg.
Max can hold at 950deg. Stright running with out load is what? 350-400deg or less?
Probe in the cross over closet to driver side manfold,Max is 1250deg. I can get close to 1200deg. Most of the time it will reach 1050deg and thats a heavey load and long grade.
Avarage is 650deg. load and flat roads at 65mph.
