I was working on my '87 6.2 tonight and was looking at my IP. Does the tag identify the model of the pump and is there also a letter code. The numbers I could read are 4502 and the letter J. Anyone know if this pump can be rebuilt to 4911 specs? This pump had a tag wired to the pump with a date 6/90 from Columbus Grove, OH. Apparently it has already been rebuilt once.

The identification number is the number that comes after the DB2 #. So you have a 4502 injection pump, Most of the DB2 injection pumps can be calibrated to 4911 specs, but won't be turned into a 4911. Why would you want to install a 4911 when your existing IP works? My personal opinion of the 4911 is that is has the extra capacity and smaller advance piston in the pump to give better results when using a turbo. I don't think that it would be worth while to install it on a N/A engine, because you would just have to turn the fuel back down, to a fuel rate somewhere near where it is currently in your 6.2 pump. But if you go the 4911 route, you also want to replace your injectors for the 6.5 injectors to match the pump.

Thanks for the info. I have no intention of replacing anything right now. Its what I have planned when I accumulate enough money. ie, rebuild, inj., turbo etc... I was hoping to save a little money by having my current IP rebuilt as opposed to buying a different one. Just planning ahead.
