I am wondering if i need to do any maintance on my 6.2 i got it with 53k and it runs fine . it came from the army. i know they do maintance well ther but they beet the heck out of them too. so should i do anything for it now ? i see people talking about injectors, timming chains, pumps and glow plugs. if i do change any of them what is the best brand and part? is it better to put the 6.5 injectors on the 6.2? i have a 86. j? what kind of oil is needed? still thinking on the turbo.. i live in ca near ocean. thank you seabee mike
15w40 is the oil... Shell Rotella is good oil....
The fuel filter and oil should be changed... along with the coolant... other then that... if the truck is running well don't mess with something that aint broke....

would it be safe to think it has the better glow plugs? non swelling? is there a way to visualy see this? 60g? thank you.
The CUCV series glow system is different from the civilian one.
Take a look at the DP member section. There's a wiring diagram somewhere.
There's a resistor bank on the firewall to reduce the incoming 24volts to 12volts.
This setup is known for failure so it would be a good idea to eliminate the resistors and either feed the glow plug relay directly from the front (12v) battery or taking a 24v relay and mil humvee 24v glow plugs (AC Delco 15G).

The glow plug controler on my 1028 didn't work when I got the truck, so I put in new 12v glow plugs, and a starter solinode from a ford on the firewall, and fed the new plugs from a pushbutton on the dash. Works well for me, took out all the resistors, freed up some space under the hood at the back of the motor. However, if your glow plug system works ok, don't bother it. It's more "idiot proof" that way, and more user-friendly to someone else driving it.
Good luck...
