6.2's and 6.5's are the same engine minus .080" of bore.........so you decide.

A lot of folks, including myself, install the Banks turbo because it's the only one now being sold as a complete kit for our vintage of vehicle. The Banks is a pretty mild turbo set up and there is no waste gate on it. The kit comes with an EGT guage which is a must have. If you keep the EGT out of the red zone you should be OK. If you have a healthy engine, I don't think a turbo will hurt the engine.

I enjoy my truck with its turbo. I consistently peg my boost gauge out at 15+psi and egts are usually below 900* . I think if you are careful and read the old posts on how people make their engines more reliable, you'll do just fine. I also drive with a lead foot when the cops are not around to hear my open exhaust.

The 6.2L Banks TD in my 83 K20 Suburban recently gave up the ghost. I first thought that I would "upgrade" to the 6.5L TD for the new engine. To my surprise, I was consistently told by the engine sellers that they recommended the 6.2L over the 6.5L for durability, even though the 6.2L cost less and they would make less money. They said that the 6.5L TD produced a bit more power than the 6.2L TD with no mods; but, the 6.5L TD was more likely to fail! They said that, with some mods, the 6.2L would produce as much power as the 6.5L and be more reliable. I decided to go with the 6.2L with low compression (19.5:1) ceramic coated pistons, performance cam, fear-drive timing, stud-girdle, high volume oil pump, 4911 IP, 6.5T injectors, 0.84 ratio exhaust housing from the Diesel Depot. I should be receiving it soon!
