Wow, just got done changing the harmonic damper on my old 6.2 (115,000 miles). What a difference, I thoght these just vibrated and that was it, but she is silky smooth now. I'm thinking about putting exhaust stacks on her so that I don't get diesel exhaust on my boat on long trips. Does anyone know of a supplier that makes a kit for a 1985. Also my understanding is that diesels in general do not require any back pressure. I wonder how noisey tall straight stacks with rain caps would be?

Straight pipes with no turbo = loud!
But you're right in that diesel engines don't require backpressure.
I'd recommend a set of 2" turn down pipes for your dual's to keep the smoke off the boat.
Stacks are cool though...
I cut open the silencers on my cucv and removed all the baffles inside and welded them back together again.
Aint too noisey but does sound good :D .
The reduced back pressure did give a slight improvement in performance and economy but not much for the time involved.
