View Full Version : fuel leak
Hi everybody,
I have an '83 3/4 ton 4x4 with 6.2. I was jacking the front end to do some brake work and diesel started leaking pretty goodfrom the enigine compartment. I couldn't tell where it was from but was running off the bottom of the engine. Anybody have this happen to them or know the first place to look. I am going to check the fuel lines to the lift pump. My thats why it starts so hard huh? Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

more than likly the injector pump leaking below the pump and when you lifted it it started running out the back probably off the bellhousing cover.

The IP's favorite places to leak, are from the throttle shaft and the external servo advance piston actuator at the bottom passenger side (throttle cam plate pushes a rocker arm that in turn pushes the actuator).
Less common, is the governor cover gasket and the return hose.
Get a flashlight and look under the pump for pooled fuel. Inspect the IP for any fuel glazing, this is all evidence of leaking.

Hi Everyone,
I've got a military k30 that I had a recent leak problem. I thought I had a check valve gone in my lift pump, HARD STARTING. When I got it out, the rubber hose had rubbed through on the cross member. Got it back running with some help from a friend. This is my first diesel, after almost 30 years with 292 L6.

I have the same model as you, same thing happened to me, turned out to be the secondary filter was loose, decided then was a good time to change it. Good luck. John

I had the same issue, it was leaking from above the starter, the fuel filter was the problem, I change this one and solve the problem, probly an o'ring.
