I see alot of questions and comments about EGT in here and wonder, what is considered a "normal" EGT? My truck (1993 K2500,xcab,longbed, 6200LBS with me in it) runs at 70MPH 550 degrees, cruise set, down to 300 deg at 35MPH, and idles around 250-275. Highest i have seen is 975 on 6 mile grade towing 6000LBS. Cant get much more than 750 out of it flooring it empty. These numbers normal? Is there a normal?

I remember someone saying if your egt temp probe is in the exhaust manifold, your readings are correct and if you put it in the crossover/downpipe to add 100 degrees to your reading to get a better idea of your egt's.

If your truck is an N/A those figures sound about right. A turbo will bring EGTs down across the board until you step on it :D and enjoy the elevated power levels!!

This engine is running a Banks turbo system.

Make sure your timing is TDC @ 1400-2000rpm and then if you want, you can turn up the pump until your top temp is 900-1000F for some more power.
Here is an excerpt from the Banks manual:
[b]Your BANKS turbocharged diesel engine should exhibit the following operating characteristics:
Cruise Conditions (constant 60mph on level road):
EGT should be approximately 400

That's interesting, because I have similar EGTs to palumbo. I read what the Banks literature said, and watched what my truck did. I don't have a meter to time it, and can't seem to locate a shop that does. The only other variables that come to mind are fuel and gearing.
Currently the truck runs:
550F EGT at 60mph cruise with 1psi boost
3/4 throttle from standstill to 75mph produces 6psi, and tops at 975-1000F EGT
Idles at 225-250F with AC off and 250-275 with AC on
This is a 8500lb truck (empty) with 4.10:1 gears turning 35" BFGs.
Not only that, but I'm starting to call into question whether or not my injector pump is really a 4911. There are some discrepancies between the work order and invoice. I'll go into more detail when I have some concrete answers from the rebuilder.

I am also not running any boost at 65MPH. I will get 1PSI boost when it goes up an overpass (we have no hills here!). I wish I knew what was going on. Read the post titled "Towing question 2nd part" to see what happened the other day.
