My 6.2 gets over 230 when I am stopped at a light and goes down to 210 when I start to drive again. I have a new water pump, thermostat, and my radiator was cleaned and recored. I think that it must be the fan clutch, and was wondering if i could mke a plate and bolt it the fan straight to the pulley with out a clutch. Will this cause any problems and will I be better off just buying a new clutch?
Thanks,
Kyle

When the engine gets warm like that at a light, do you hear the ran roar when you take off or shortly after? If not, I'd sure look into a new clutch, at 230 the clutch should engage. What does the engine temperature run at normally? If it likes to run at 210 all the time, I'd suspect that the thermostat isn't working as it should. You could also have blockage in the cooling system somewhere. Sometimes a gasket skips during the install of a waterpump, or too much RTV, etc.

There are kits that work on the 6.2 to allow you to install a flex-fan on your engine this will remove the clutch entirely, and it will pull air through the radiator. The problem with these is that they do rob power from the engine and don't work as great at high speeds, but work great in town driving.

I never really hear the fan roar but the engine is loud, so may be i haven't noticed it. The thermostat didn't really fit right when I put it in so i will try getting a new one, not from autozone because they always give me the wrong stuff.
Thanks again

Try your very best to find a robertshaw thermostat for your engine OR nothing other than the stock one will do.

Get the Robertshaw Extra Performance model, this is what they look like.

You can contact these people to get one (directly)

here is the direct link to the thermostats:

You can also get them from one of the Venders here on TDP, Kennedy Diesel.
