Hello all,

What is the best oil to run when my truck is ready (getting close, cross your fingers) like rotella, longlife (pennzoil), etc... and then what weight is best (15w40, 30, 40 etc...)?

Thanks to all,

Don Cannon

I'm a big fan of Chevron Delo 15w-40. It's got the API CI-4 rating, and should handle the amount of soot our engines produce quite nicely.

I second the DELO vote, I used to run Pennzoil Longlife, till oil pump died in the 6.5TD. So, I swapped to Delo.

Either Chevron Delo 400 or Mobil Delvac 1300 in 15W-40 should handle everything your engine throws at it.

I am a big fan of Synthetic Mobil Delvac 5w40 and Synthetic Shell Rotella T 5w40. Excellent results for both. Both are diesel specific oils with the highest ratings, resistance to soot, etc. Since the Mobil Delvac synthetic is very hard to find in Ohio (the regular delvac is pretty easy to find), lately I have been using the Shell Rotella T synthetic 5w40 (in the blue gallon jug), which most Wal-Marts seem to have for less than $14.00 a gallon.

Good luck,

Kevin.

I have always used Shell Rotella 15-40. I add a quart of Moreys oil stabilizer when changing. I ran a small cam 400 magnum cummins to half a million miles until the after cooler began to leak and the bearings looked like new when I inframed the engine. I used the regular cummins gallon oil filter and the old style luberefiner cannister on the truck.
