Check for air/fuel leaks on any of the fuel lines to and from the pump and on the fuel filter, etc. To me it sounds like a linkage problem, or possibly a wacky cruise control engaging! Check for binding of the linkage, and where the spring is on the throttle shaft. Usually a pump won't run away like that unless the pump top has been off and wasn't quite put back on correctly.

today i checked for leaks and could noy find any,i also changed fuel filter. come to think about it the problem started after i tighten a injector line at the pump that was leaking.there is nothing hanging up on th linkages, but if you depress the pedal only a Quarter on an inch it revs up and die. can someone please help????

I would check the fuel line to the engine itself, make sure it was not crushed or pinched when the motor was put in. I don't think you have a fuel pump but if you do check it.
