OK, long story short. My 83 broke the crank last fall with 250K, been sitting since. I have another block and crank but the crank has had some light surface rust. I also just today noticed some dings in one of the rod journals. Now to the question. I know the recommendation is against turning these cranks. However, the funds aren't available at the moment to replace it with another and the one piece model is preferable to the two piece crank. Is there an acceptable amount that they can be turned with minimal ill effect? Would polishing be able to remove light dings?
An automotive machine shop can polish the crank, and verify whether or not it's within accepable size limits when they're through polishing it.
It's possible they could check it out and verify that you could use .001" undersize bearings.

Thanks Bob, I had read some on here that these cranks shouldn't be turned. I'll get it checked out. I wouldn't think .001 or .002 would weaken it much but I wanted some other opinions before I decided to go ahead with it.

can you get bearings .001 or even .005 or is .010 undersize as close as it gets? Sorry for the dumb questions.
