how do I check the advance mechanism. Or is it not checkable?

The surest way to check the load advance mech. is on a inj. pump stand. The throttle cam plate advance can be checked with a timing meter with the engine running.

I was reading some and what I have is poor power. I had the motor replaced with a new GM replacement(dumb thing I think anymore). The injection pump was not changed however and the original motor had over 200,000 miles on it when I got it. So when I was reading through I found a few causes for lost power and started looking. Lift pump is working fine. But since the injection pump is still the original I want to check it out as much as possible before deciding to get a new one,which probably is not a bad idea.

If the inj. pump is original, it will have gone double it's expected life, so a new one or a rebuild would be a good idea.
