Another question about new to me 86' one ton. Engine not running when purchased, working on trying to start it. Batteries charged and it will crank, however when I turn on ignition key the green "Water in Fuel" indicator light comes on for about one second and then go out. Does this mean their is water in fuel and I need to drain the filter or is it just a system check? I read the owners manual military version that can w/ truck and it is not clear onm this subject.

Also, the glow plug "Wait" light did not come on when I turned on the ignition key ( this could be a problem!). Have not checked this out to see if it is a malfunction or an indicator light out. Will the engine start wo/ glow plugs, if so, above what temperture along w/how much cranking?
thanks for your help,

The WATER IN FUEL bulb should light with ignition on and engine not running. However the bulb color on my M1008 is not green.

IMHO a strange behaviour while cranking may not considered as critical.

The problem with the missing glow plug light should lead to your starting problems.
Unless your starter, batteries, engine compression are in excellent shape, I don't think it will start without glowing under temperatures of 10 to 15

Waorth,
Thanks for the help, I rechecked my "Water in Fuel" indicator light and it is RED not green.
Plan to try starting engine later this week when the temperature warms-up.
thanks,
Les
