View Full Version : Pyrometer
My pyrometer quit working shortly after changing engines. I found a spot in the wiring where all of the insulation seems to be gone. Can I reinsulate that or what will I have to do? Since there is no power to the unit, can it short out? Do I need new wires or therma-couple? Where can you get that? My pyrometer does not have the plug in wiring. Thanks, Nape

I'm assuming that you have the Banks Pyrometer, because thats the only one that I can think of that doesn't get it's power from the vehicle. If you've got a nick in the insulation you can either get some heat shrink and re-insulate the wire or splice it. Where is the nick at?
Thermocouple junction is where ever the two bare wires touch - temperature will be 'sensed' at that point.
Your gage did not quit working, it is just measuring ambient instead of exhaust.
Separate the wires and insulate them to restore EGT function.
Isspro supplys tc gages to Kenworth, Peterbuilt, and others.
